Toro Y Moi announces eighth album, shares lead single

The San Francisco polymath’s Hole Erth arrives in September.

Toro Y Moi has announced the release of a new album.

Hole Erth is scheduled for arrival in September through Dead Oceans and marks California-based songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Chaz Bear’s eighth full-length project to materialise under his long-running and ever-changing moniker.

The follow-up to 2022’s psychedelia-flecked MAHAL is noted to showcase a return to the electronic sound palette that first garnered Bear acclaim through his rise as a stalwart of the chillwave movement. Recorded between 2023 and 2024, the forthcoming project is a guest-heavy pursuit featuring contributions from Aaron Maine of Porches notoriety, Death Cab For Cutie and The Postal Service frontman Ben Gibbard and Brockhampton founder Kevin Abstract among others.

Bear muses in a press release for Hole Erth,

“Toro is not a rock band. To me, my folk records and psych rock records are the side quests. What I fell in love with with the Toro project were the electronic productions – the samples. There’s always more to be done in the electronic world.”
